Creative initiatives—like preparing a shelter for the soul in the middle of a complex city as in the silence-filled transcendence of a Rothko chapel, or letting Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony thunder through a cold street corner or a glittering concert hall—become the church’s most beautiful and dignified gesture of reconciliation toward a sick world.
